It was January 1926 when our Ladies' Auxiliary was organized. Initially it comprised of nine ladies in the community. The purpose of the Auxiliary was, and still is, "to physically, financially, and morally assist as best we can the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, of Souderton, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania."
The Auxiliary holds benefits to raise funds which are then given to the Fire Company. In 1926 the ladies provided a cash contribution of $300.00 and in 2005 it was $20,000. Over the years the contributions have equaled several hundred thousand dollars. Thanks to the patronage of their events, the Auxiliary is able to contribute this amount of money.
We all must change with the times, and the Ladies Auxiliary is no different. We try to keep up with the changes in society, but it is sad that we (like most volunteer organizations) are slow in getting new members. With everyone's busy lifestyle, it is difficult to find time to volunteer. But it is a very worthwhile and fulfilling experience.
Meetings are held the first Wednesday night of each month, commencing at 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in joining, please feel free to email Jill Toy, Public Liason.
